As an Arizona native and supporter of the AZ Audubon Center since middle school, I am very happy to jump on the chance to do my part to help conserve the beautiful desert landscape we share. Not only are they imperative to sustaining the desert's beauty, but they serve a purpose within the ecosystem of housing over 32 species of birds & providing a place for roosting, perching, mate seeking, and nesting. According to the AZ National Park Service website, Tucson's Saguaro population is rapidly decreasing due to the huge increase in the human population. The National Park Service's article Threats to the Saguaro states:

"With this influx of people has come another threat to the saguaro – exotic plants. Exotic plants almost always out-compete native plants for the limited resources of water and nutrients. Exotic plants – particularly buffelgrass fountain grass, and red brome – have also led to an increase in wildfires in the desert, which harm or kill native vegetation, including the saguaro." (par. 3)

Help me do my part to combat these developing threats before the Saguaro becomes another endangered species on our public's ever-growing list. My original goal was just to raise $250 to add 5 seedlings to the area, however thanks to all of YOU & your amazing contributions, we have raised almost double that!!! As a result, I am upping the goal to $500 - WE ARE ALREADY SO CLOSE!!!  Every $1 counts, and we will have officially funded 10 seedlings to be planted, so please consider helping! <3

With the help of our community of supporters, Tucson Audubon Society is planting 14,000 saguaros over the next three years. These 5-year-old saguaro seedlings are being planted in precise locations selected to support the health and viability of the young cacti.
