Description

Tucson Audubon is partnering with University of Arizona student extraordinaire Rhianyon Larson to organize a volunteer trash clean-up event at one of our restoration sites along the Santa Cruz River!

Date: November 19 from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location: On Silverbell Rd between Ina Rd and Sunset Rd. Coordinates: 32.325528, -111.072750. A Tucson Audubon Volunteer will be near the entrance gate to help guide you to the parking area. Access and parking on site is extremely limited, so we strongly encourage carpooling when possible.

What to know: Please note that the site is made up of uneven terrain with areas of steep incline and loose soil. Furthermore, a few volunteer housekeeping items will be required of all attendees, including signing a waiver and allowing us to log the time you spend helping us clean up.

What to wear & bring: Please wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a reusable water bottle, snacks, proper sun protection (hat, long sleeves, sunscreen, etc.), and if possible, work/gardening gloves as we only have a limited supply to lend out. If you have a 5-gallon bucket to use for trash collection, please bring that, too, and help us reduce the number of plastic garbage bags we need to use!

Background about the project: Tucson Audubon restoration crews have been hard at work felling and treating invasive salt cedar along the Santa Cruz River as part of the Corazon Sin Fuego restoration project. In partnership with Pima County Regional Flood Control and Northwest Fire District, Tucson Audubon has been removing fireprone invasives from the floodplain to protect this valuable riparian habitat and lay the groundwork for future restoration along the river. We now have 5 acres cleared of invasive species and now want to clear it of trash, as well!
