I am new to birding and started during the summer of Covid when I had plenty of time in my backyard.  I added water features, native plants and bird feeders and began watching birds.  I went to Madera Canyon and found the Elegant Trogon, a rare bird, eating a worm and became hooked on birding.  I learned about Tucson Audubon early on and they turned me into an avid birder. They helped me to learn where to see birds, how to appreciate their behaviors and how to identify and track birds in Southern Arizona.  This is my first time to participate in the Tucson Audubon Birdathon, but I am very excited to help an organization that has helped me foster a love of birds.  Tucson Audubon is an incredible organization full of talented and dedicated employees and volunteers!

I have sold Girl Scout Cookies, magazines and participated in walkathons and bowlathons and now I am going to participate in a Birdathon. A Birdathon is like a walkathon, except instead of counting miles, we count birds! If you have been liking my bird photos, I am asking for your help, if you can, by contributing to the Tucson Audubon Birdathon.  Tucson Audubon is an amazing organization that inspires people to enjoy and protect birds through recreation, education, conservation, and restoration of the environment.   I usually participate in 1-2 Tucson Audubon Zoom meetings a week where I have learned about all of the locations in Tucson to take my photos, better camera equipment, photo techniques  and where I have learned so much about bird species. The staff at Tucson Audubon are the reason I have become such a passionate birder and why I feel it is so important to help their cause!  All of the money donated stays in Tucson and the donation is tax deductible.

You have two ways to contribute and no amount is too small to help me achieve my goal.  You can make a flat donation or you can pledge an amount to make me work even harder to find different species of birds.  If you donate $50 or more, you will be given a secret code from Tucson Audubon to participate in Zoom Presentations from National and Local speakers including Kenn Kaufman, Richard Crossley, Holly Merker and more. I plan to bird one day on the week of April 12th.  I will look at the weather conditions to make my final decision about which day will be best for viewing the most amount of birds.  I plan to bird by back yard feeders and my favorite birding location of Sweetwater Wetlands.  I usually see about 15 bird species in my backyard and 20-30 species when I bird at Sweetwater Wetlands.  But, if you make a pledge on the number of species I see on that single day, I will do my best to help the Tucson Audubon by examining every tree and pond.  As the time gets closer, I will keep you posted on what day I choose to bird.  The important part is that your money will help the birds  and birding community in Tucson.

Finally, to thank you for participating, I will enter everyone into a raffle for receiving one of my Photoart Bird prints.  I will have three winners, one for the person who makes the largest donation and 2 winners in a raffle drawing for everyone who makes a contribution.

Birds have a unique, special, and different meaning to each of us. So, too, is each of our connection with Tucson Audubon Society personal and distinct. During Birdathon, we combine the love of bird watching during spring migration with support for bird conservation.

Birdathoners are birders and social fundraisers, joining together to make a difference for the birds and habitats of Southeast Arizona. Birdathoners continue a tradition that has held strong for over 30 years!

Each Birdathoner's personal network of supporters is what helps makes Birdathon possible.

Birdathon donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tucson Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
