Our team is slow to get started this year but we can't miss Birdathon! Our format will be different this year. I am unable to get to Denton Texas in April so Henry and Hannah will team up with their parents - possibly their maternal grandmother Ann will be able to join them later this month. I'll particpate by Facetime. Their goal will be 16 birds ( Henry and Hannah's combined ages ). Right now the best birding in Denton is lake birding with their target of herons and egrets and possibly some late departing waterfowl. Cardinals, Blue jays, Bluebirds, Grackles and chickadees are always likley with a possible roadrunner and Red-shouldered hawk or Red-bellied woodpecker. They will also count as many Scissor-tailed flycatchers as they can through the end of the month.
Henry participated in his first festival in September, the Rockport Fulton Hummerbird Festival. He competed in the young birder scavenger hunt tour of birding sites and tied for first place. His highlight was being allowed to skipper the famous "Skimmer" across Aransas bay after a later afternoon bird boating excursion.
