We’re two Montessori teachers, Jeannette Olsson and Kelsey Gwozdz, lucky enough to call the Sonoran Desert home, where fascinating and beautiful bird species are abundant.

Birds are part of our everyday lives and a huge part of what we love sharing with our students. For us, birding is a way to slow down and notice, stay wondering, and connect more deeply with the world around us. Not only that, but it feels like a real-life-version of Pokemon Go!

This year, we’re teaming up for the 2026 Birdathon to turn that passion into action. We’ll be counting as many bird species as we can while raising funds to support bird conservation, habitat protection, and environmental education.

As educators, we see how powerful it is when kids experience nature up close. Supporting this Birdathon helps protect the birds we love and ensures future generations get to learn from and be inspired by them too.
