Melissa and I will once again be birding Owl By Ourselves this year! We plan to do a Big Day (find as many birds as possible in a 24-hour period), although we will be the yin to the yang of the other Big Day teams. While they race all around Southeast Arizona day and night to rack up amazing bird counts, I personally plan to sleep in until at least 7am, see around 30 species at a hotspot of my choosing, get a few photos, listen to some bird calls, maybe take a nap, head home when I feel like it, and be in bed by 10pm. Ah, what a day! I leave it up to Melissa to decide how she will structure her day.
Yin Bird
Our brains have been overloaded with work, the ongoing threats to our environment, and the overall state of our nation, so we are taking this opportunity to slow down and be more intentional about enjoying the birds, critters, and plants we come across. We are not sure where we will go and may not decide until the day-of. Maybe it will be up Mount Lemmon, or down to Patagonia, or closer to home at a place like Sweetwater---you'll just have to wait and see!
We still plan to photograph birds but also will capture other things we find beautiful or interesting. We'll add our photos to this Google Photos album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/une57QFXA1axH3U7A
If you want to support our efforts and, more importantly, the larger mission of Tucson Bird Alliance to inspire people to enjoy and protect birds, please donate to our team! You have two ways to give, by making a flat donation or pledging per bird species we see.
Thank you for your support!
