The Rosenbirders (Lee Rosenblum, Amy Rosenblum, Cesar "Rosenblum" Sepulveda, Diana Rosenblum, and Matt "Rosenblum" Batten) just participated in their 9th annual Birdathon! The team had a great day birding from the northwest to the east side of town. The early risers kicked off with a saunter around Sweetwater Wetlands, soon joined by the rest of the team down the street at Agua Nueva Park. They were pleasantly surprised by their first trip to this park, which proved to be quite productive. From there, the Rosenbirders headed east to visit another new location: Agua Caliente Park. Though there were fewer birds, there were a lot more people! Leaving the crowds and heat behind, the team began the drive up Mt Lemmon. Lunching at the Loma Linda picnic area provided gorgeous views and new birds for the day. The biggest surprise was finding a group of wild turkeys lounging near snow packs in Ski Valley! The drive home yielded no new birds for the day, but the evening did bring out the coyotes and javalina, so Birdathon continued through the night. Tallying up the totals, the Rosenbirders are happy to report a total of 60 birds species (check out the trip report here), including five types of water birds; six unquie species at Rose Canyon Lake; four javalina; and a pack of coyotes (so at least two!) calling, but not seen. Overall, one of the Rosenbirders' biggest Birdathons to date!
If you would like to support the Rosenbirders with a donation, please feel free to add an encouraging note! Donations of all amounts are greatly appreciated, and help support the amazing bird and habitat conservation work of Tucson Audubon!
