Hello Wrenegade and Birdathon fans!  It is that time of year again, and I'm so incredibly excited for it!  

I have been participating in Birdathon for about 15 years now, and am so proud to still be raising money to support Tucson Audubon Society and their efforts to inspire people to enjoy and protect birds.  I am honored to still call my swashbuckling Wrenegades crew, (and other staff at Tucson Audubon,) my very good mates in both birding for fun and for conservation.  

This year, on Monday May 2, our team will finally be back together again in one boat, sailing a smooth sea covering less miles and spending more time together on the open desert "seas" and sky islands looking for those hummingbird jewels and songbird gems. Our treasure map has been created by our keen-minded crew mate, Tim, while Jennie Wren leads the crew with her sword held high!  Myself (you can call me "Spike") and our other matey, Matt, will be there to bring the pirates booty and encouragement, teamwork and support.  Together we make a fine crew of bird lovers and conservation supporters!

To honor this Birdathon season (especially after realizing the last two years that we really missed birding together!) we will be dirving less and birding more in particular hot spot locations in order to count the most birds we possibly can.  More time in the field together idenfitying and counting birds, and less time dealing with traffic, and less fuel used, too. It's bound to be a treasure-filled day. Our route and time has been shortened a bit over our previous 24-hour stints, but our endurance and excitement to raise funds for Tucson Audubon has not waned in the least!  

We are hoping to count well over 100 species of birds.

Please join me in supporting the Birdathon effort this season by making a tax-deductible donation!  Birdathon is like a walk-a-thon.  You can pledge per bird species, or you can pledge a flat fee, or you can give us a challenge.  Anything works, and all of it goes straight to Tucson Audubon Society.

• Marcia Grand: $10/species; $5 for every active nest (building, eggs, sitting, etc); $10 for every species of identified snake; $5 for every species of identified butterfly; $50 for a turtle; an extra $100 if you ID 5 or more hummingbird species; $500 for one eagle
• Karen Zadkovic: $0.50/species and an extra $2 for every owl you see

Birds have a unique, special, and different meaning to each of us. So, too, is each of our connection with Tucson Audubon Society personal and distinct. During Birdathon, we combine the love of bird watching during spring migration with support for bird conservation.

Birdathoners are birders and social fundraisers, joining together to make a difference for the birds and habitats of Southeast Arizona. Birdathoners continue a tradition that has held strong for over 30 years! 

Each Birdathoner's personal network of supporters is what helps makes Birdathon possible. 

Birdathon donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tucson Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
